HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – Hines, in partnership with Tucson-based Watermark Retirement Communities, is developing a seven-story senior living community in the Heights neighborhood.
The project, named The Watermark at Houston Heights, will include 222 residences and is scheduled to open in January.
The building occupies a site of less than two acres at 1245 West 18th Street, between T.C. Jester Boulevard and Shepherd Drive.
The development team features Munoz + Albin Architecture and Planning as design architect; Looney & Associates handling interior design for common areas; TBG Landscape Architects as landscape architect; and Harvey Builders serving as general contractor.
“With its best-in-class architecture, luxury amenities and services, innovative wellness offerings, and proximity to the neighborhood’s renowned restaurants, shopping, art galleries and entertainment, The Watermark at Houston Heights will set a new standard for senior living in Houston,” said John Mooz, Hines Senior Managing Director.

Watermark’s Memory Care program includes caregivers known as “Nayas,” a term that translates to “guide” or “person of wisdom” in ancient Sanskrit.
The community will offer multiple levels of living: Independent Living, Assisted Living and Memory Care, providing a continuum of care within one campus.
“Our goal is to provide seniors a smooth transition from living at home to living in a service- and amenity-rich community, where members can enjoy a vibrant lifestyle with ready access to various levels of care,” said David Freshwater, Chairman of Watermark Retirement Communities.
Hines, a global development firm founded in Houston in 1957, is also developing the MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care at River Oaks, a six-story senior community located one block from the Southwest Freeway near the corner of Richmond Avenue and Kirby Drive. That project is slated to open this fall.
In downtown Houston, Hines is currently constructing a 47-story office tower and a 46-story residential building, adding to the firm’s active portfolio in the city.
