WeWork Chooses The Jones on Main for Its First Houston Hub

WeWork will open a location in the historic Jones on Main office project.

HOUSTON — WeWork, the global co-working operator, will open its first Houston location within The Jones on Main, a prominent historic redevelopment in downtown Houston.

WeWork’s flexible office model appeals to startups, entrepreneurs and large corporations that need a visible, flexible presence in key cities. Its blend of private offices, shared workspaces and amenity-driven common areas supports a wide range of tenants and workstyles.

The Jones on Main redevelopment encompasses the 708 Main and 712 Main buildings and is being developed by Houston-based Midway in partnership with Lionstone Investments. Colvill Office Properties is responsible for leasing at the property.

While no formal lease announcement has been released, sources in Houston’s real estate community indicate one is expected soon.

The redevelopment plans for the iconic 708 and 712 Main buildings emphasize creating an activated, collaborative environment by connecting the two buildings at street level. The project will introduce hospitality-inspired amenities and new street-level restaurant and retail spaces to enhance the pedestrian experience and support building tenants.

Built in 1908 and expanded in 1922, 708 Main has anchored Main Street in downtown Houston for more than a century. Known historically as The Great Jones Building, the tower originally housed the Texas Company (which later became Texaco) and later served as the Bankers Mortgage Building.

Jesse H. Jones, the former publisher of the Houston Chronicle and a major civic leader, maintained an office in 708 Main while work was underway on the adjacent Gulf Building.

The 712 Main tower is a 37-story Art Deco skyscraper that currently contains the Houston banking headquarters for JPMorgan Chase & Co. Commissioned by Jesse Jones in 1929, the tower stood as Houston’s tallest building until 1963. It is designated as a City of Houston Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Jones on Main redevelopment aims to preserve the buildings’ historic character while modernizing interior spaces and public amenities to meet contemporary office and retail needs, supporting downtown’s ongoing revitalization.
