Sunrun Expands to Houston, Opens Sugar Land Office for Residential Solar

Sunrun, a residential solar company, leased space in Sugar Land as it expands into Texas.

HOUSTON — Sunrun Inc., a leading residential solar company, has leased office and warehouse space in Sugar Land as part of its expansion into the Houston region.

The San Francisco–based rooftop solar provider signed a lease for 12,150 square feet within the Sugar Land Business Park, according to Colliers International, the commercial real estate firm that handled the transaction.

Sunrun recently announced plans to enter six new markets: Texas, New Mexico, Rhode Island, Vermont and Wisconsin, as well as Washington, D.C. The move broadens the company’s national footprint and brings additional options for homeowners seeking rooftop solar solutions.

“Expanding into these new markets will give homeowners the opportunity to power their homes directly from their rooftops, making energy more affordable and the electric grid cleaner and more reliable,” said Lynn Jurich, Sunrun’s CEO. “Even better, we deliver this service while creating high-quality local jobs that cannot be exported or automated.”

The company will occupy space in a flex-industrial building at 12560 Reed Road at Industrial Boulevard in Fort Bend County. Colliers brokers Barkley Peschel and Trey Erwin represented Sunrun in the lease. Those brokers also recently assisted with the sale of the building where Sunrun will operate; the buyer of the 42,000-square-foot building was represented by Jim Autenreith and Bob Gulley of Moody Rambin.

The property is located north of U.S. Highway 90 and west of Dairy Ashford Road, providing convenient access to the broader Houston metro area.

With these newest markets, Sunrun now operates in 22 states plus Washington, D.C. The company attributes its expansion to falling costs for solar installations and strong consumer demand for more control over energy choices, which are increasing homeowners’ access to solar power.

Since pioneering the “solar-as-a-service” model in 2007, Sunrun has focused on making clean energy accessible with minimal or no upfront cost and predictable savings compared with conventional utility bills. The company designs and installs systems and also provides financing, insurance, monitoring and maintenance, offering customers long-term pricing stability for 20 years or more.
