New Project: 1000 Homes to be Built

1000 Homes to be Built in New Project

HOUSTON, –Shea Homes is developing a 430-acre community called Wildtree in Montgomery County north of Houston.

Construction of community will begin later this year, the builder said, with home sales are slated to begin in 2025.

Eventually, Wildtree will have a total of 1,000 houses, Shea Homes said.

Located in west Montgomery County, the property features rolling hills and a densely forested creek bed that runs through the project, two natural features that gave the inspiration for naming the community.

Find The Inner Child

“Certainly, the topography of the community served as an inspiration as we carefully considered a variety of choices over the past six months,” said Keith Luechtefeld, Houston Division President for Shea Homes. “We wanted a community name that evokes a sense of freedom and discovery and portrays the community as a place where residents can explore and find their inner child. Being one word and relatively unique when it comes to names of residential communities is a bonus.”

Shea’s current master plan calls for a variety of homesites, including 40-foot, 50-foot, 60-foot and 70-foot lots.

“Wildtree will be single-family residential only, so we want to have a wide variety of homes that will appeal to any number of home buyers,” Luechtefeld said.

The community is located along FM 1486 immediately north of Crown Ranch, with easy access to Highway 249.

“Easy access to the new Aggie Expressway, which connects the Houston area with College Station, will open Wildtree up to people in both markets,” Luechtefeld said.

This will be the fourth Shea community within the Houston region. Others include Manvel’s Del Bello Lakes and the 740-acre Evergreen community in Conroe. The builder is also developing Woodhavyn east of FM 1488 near Wildtree. Home sales in Woodhavyn are slated to begin this year.

In Based in Walnut, Calif., Shea Homes currently builds in nine Houston, area communities Founded in 1968, Shea Homes, a privately held builder, has delivered more than 100,000 homes.

The housing market has faced headwinds in 2023 and interest rates rose again in July, hitting the dreaded 7 percent mark. However, many home builders have registered strong sales by offering lower mortgage rates and a relative abundance of supply in a time when existing home inventory has been tight.
