HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) — Johnson Development, a prominent national builder of master-planned communities, has announced Jubilee, a new residential project that will bring nearly 5,000 homes to northwest Houston.
Jubilee will occupy 1,620 acres in Hockley, located just south of U.S. Highway 290 near the Grand Parkway.
The word “jubilee” evokes celebration and rejoicing and is often associated with milestone anniversaries.
A Community Focused on Joy and Mental Well-Being
Johnson Development says Jubilee will be centered on joy with a deliberate emphasis on enhancing residents’ physical, emotional and mental well-being.
“We want to raise the bar for how a community can better the lives of the individuals that live in it,” said Larry Johnson, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Johnson Development. “Every aspect of this new community is being intentionally designed to promote positivity, allowing residents to decompress from the everyday grind and connect with nature and each other.”
Experienced Developer, Not a Commune
Johnson Development is a major, Houston-based developer known for master-planned communities across the country. Locally, its portfolio includes Sienna, Riverstone, Cross Creek Ranch, Coles Crossing and Fall Creek. The company also played a key role in transforming the Pearland/Highway 288 corridor, revitalizing the unfinished Southwyck project into the successful Silverlake community.
For Jubilee, Johnson Development says it applied a holistic design approach—considering street layouts, park placement and amenity architecture—to spark happiness and surround residents with positivity. The theme of positivity even influenced the community’s name.
While many master-planned communities adopt themes tied to terrain or agricultural concepts, few have explicitly embraced happiness and mental well-being as a core theme.
“Jubilee has multiple positive interpretations,” said Trey Reichert, General Manager of the Jubilee community. “It represents joy, is energetic and has nuances of community. These concepts will be well represented in the mindful spaces we are designing for residents. Connection with others is proven to enhance a person’s well-being and Jubilee will be all about helping residents feel happy and healthy.”
Positivity in the COVID Era
Although planning for Jubilee began before the COVID-19 pandemic, Reichert says the community’s thematic vision is especially meaningful in the current era.
“The pandemic has turned our focus to health and has shown us just how important where you live can be,” he said. “Imagine living in a home that has all the room you need in a community specifically designed to elicit peace and harmony. It’s something we can all use right now.”
Johnson Development acquired the site—southwest of U.S. Highway 290 near Katy Hockley Road, a few miles west of the Grand Parkway—in 2017. Jubilee is the firm’s 19th active community and its first project in northwest Houston. The development is planned for approximately 4,800 homes, with pre-sales expected to begin in early 2023.
The announcement comes as Houston’s housing market remains exceptionally active. Builders in some cases have struggled to keep pace with demand amid shortages of materials, labor and available lots. Land sales remain brisk as developers respond to the need for new home sites.
Founded in 1975, Johnson Development has had more communities ranked among the nation’s top-selling projects than any other developer since 2014.
