AUSTIN — A new 35-story office tower is expected to be announced soon for downtown Austin, and local reports indicate that Google or Salesforce could lease the entire building.
The development site, known as Block 185, is part of the former Green Water Treatment Plant redevelopment led by Trammell Crow. According to a source familiar with the project, Michael Dell’s MSD Capital is providing equity backing for the office tower.
The proposed building sits on the north side of Lady Bird Lake, near Shoal Creek and adjacent to Google’s recently announced Second Street building. While official plans have not yet been released, bloggers and local journalists are widely speculating that the deal is already in place. The Austin Business Journal has reported on the possibility that Google could become the primary tenant.
Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects designed a striking tower that will occupy a prominent position on the skyline facing Lady Bird Lake. The firm is also known for designing the 61-story Salesforce Tower in San Francisco, developed by Hines.
The Block 185 project at 601 West Second Street will be constructed near the new Austin Public Library, further anchoring the area’s continuing redevelopment.
