HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) — Johnson Development Services and M/I Homes have begun construction on a 238‑acre residential community in northwest Harris County along the FM 2920 corridor near Mueschke Road.
Houston ranks second nationwide for home construction, trailing only Dallas. Strong demand for housing combined with mortgage rates near 3 percent is keeping home sales active.
As new home starts surge, land transactions have been steady as developers prepare lots to meet builder demand.
The new Johnson–M/I community, named Sorella, will feature a variety of homesites, including 40‑ and 50‑foot lots and half‑acre properties arranged around an amenity lake. Lot deliveries are expected by the end of next year, with model homes and move‑in ready inventory available by spring 2023.
“This is a fast‑growing area with excellent access to major thoroughfares, including the Grand Parkway and Highway 249,” said Michael Cox, President of Johnson Development Services. “Sorella will offer a relaxed lifestyle without sacrificing convenient access to daily amenities.”
Sorella will include 838 homesites in total. M/I Homes will build 433 homes in the community, with prices starting in the $200,000s. Jay McManus serves as Houston Division President for M/I Homes.
Johnson Development Services will market its remaining 405 homesites within Sorella to Newmark Homes and Beazer Homes. Beazer will expand its successful homebuilding program from the nearby Amira community, while Newmark plans to establish a significant presence in the growing FM 2920 submarket, according to Cox.
Johnson Development has developed many master‑planned communities across the Houston area, including Cross Creek Ranch, Harvest Green, Imperial, Jordan Ranch, Sienna, Riverstone, Edgewater, Fall Creek, Grand Central Park, Harmony, Tuscan Lakes, Willow Creek Farms and Woodforest.
