HOUSTON — AMD Global, LLC has purchased The Heights Hospital, and major renovations are currently in progress with an anticipated completion in mid-September.

AMD Global partnered with Medical Center Developments to acquire the 192,077-square-foot, six-story hospital situated on 3.94 acres at 1917 Ashland Street in the Heights, according to Dr. Dharmesh Patel, CEO of AMD.

The facility, previously operated by Select Specialty Hospitals, has housed St. Joseph Medical Center, which will remain a key anchor tenant. “St. Joseph has been doing a phenomenal job and continues to operate here today,” Patel said. “They are, and will continue to be, an important partner in our overall plan.”

Patel explained that their strategy focuses on attracting additional medical tenants and expanding clinical services to establish The Heights Hospital as a prominent healthcare destination and an integral community resource in the Heights neighborhood.

Planned service expansions include a labor and delivery unit with a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU); pediatric offices; a comprehensive orthopedics center covering spine care, general orthopedics, sports medicine and rehabilitation; and a wound care center.

The hospital will also feature a full-service restaurant, West 19th Grille, located on-site for patients, visitors and staff.

“By revitalizing this landmark, attracting the right tenants and expanding services, we are creating something of real significance with The Heights Hospital,” Patel said. “We look forward to transforming this facility into one that reflects the individuality and spirit of the Heights and to providing area residents the high-quality healthcare they deserve.”

Dharmesh Patel, MD, founder and CEO of AMD Global, is also a co-founder and the Chief Operating Officer of Neighbors Emergency Health Centers, a network that operates more than 30 freestanding emergency rooms across multiple states.

Beyond the transformation of The Heights Hospital, AMD Global serves as the parent company of Avail Health, a newly formed hospital system developing facilities in several states. Avail Health’s planned projects include a micro-hospital in Lake Charles, Louisiana, scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2017.
