New Membership-Only Costco Store Opening Near Houston

STAFFORD, Texas – (Realty News Report) – Costco is preparing to open a new type of store in the Houston area: a Costco Business Center designed to serve small businesses, restaurants and retailers as well as regular members.

The new Business Center will encompass approximately 148,000 square feet of retail space. It will carry heavy-duty commercial appliances and bulk-sized food and supply packages geared to business customers, while also offering many items in consumer-sized portions for individual members.

Scheduled to open this fall, the Costco Business Center will be open to any active Costco cardholder—both individuals and business members.

The location is along the Southwest Freeway at 12717 Network Drive, near South Kirkwood Road and West Airport, within the City of Stafford.

Costco, based in Issaquah, Washington, currently operates more than 500 retail locations, including 15 existing Business Center stores.

Construction crews are finalizing the new concept store, which will sit on a 13-acre parcel within The Grid development.

The Grid is a large mixed-use redevelopment built on the former Texas Instruments campus. StreetLevel Investments and joint-venture partner Provident Realty Advisors are leading the project.

“Costco is the forward-looking and nimble retailer we’ve been seeking in an anchor tenant, bringing a national reputation for its innovative retail strategy,” said Adam Schiller, Managing Principal of StreetLevel Investments. “We are thrilled Costco selected The Grid as its first Houston location for the Business Center concept, and we look forward to a very successful grand opening.”

The Grid will combine roughly 350,000 square feet of retail, restaurant and entertainment space with 2,400 residential units, 500,000 square feet of creatively focused office space, multiple hotel brands, a health club, and a network of pocket parks, jogging and bike trails. The development emphasizes activated public spaces and a walkable urban environment.

In addition to new apartment projects totaling 725 units by JLB Partners, The Grid’s tenant mix will include a range of dining and retail operators such as Whiskey Cake Kitchen, Outback Steakhouse, In-N-Out, Pluckers, Torchy’s Tacos, Amegy Bank, AT&T, Chipotle, Verizon, Raising Cane’s, Panda Express, McAlister’s, 7-Eleven, Great Clips and others.
