Menninger Psychiatric Hospital Expands with Houston Outpatient Facility

HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – The Menninger Clinic is constructing a 33,000-square-foot Outpatient Services Center on its 50-acre campus along Highway 90, a few miles south of the Texas Medical Center.

The Houston-based, nationally recognized nonprofit psychiatric hospital plans to break ground on the new facility in November.

Mental Health During the Pandemic

“Our donors are as excited as we are to see this important project begin,” said Armando E. Colombo, president and CEO of The Menninger Clinic. “The Outpatient Services Center will significantly expand Menninger’s ability to care for more people. The new facility will enable growth while building on the widespread adoption of telehealth that many patients have relied on during the pandemic. Our skilled clinicians will be equipped to make virtual visits using advanced technology.”

JLL is managing development of the center, which is expected to open in February 2022. Kirksey Architecture is the designer and Houston-based Tellepsen is serving as the general contractor.

JLL Senior Vice President Mark Harrison is leading the firm’s Project & Development Services team. “As one of the nation’s leading organizations in behavioral health, Menninger’s work and this new Outpatient Center will have a meaningful, positive impact on the health and well-being of neighbors, friends, and families in our community,” he said.

The Menninger campus is located at 12301 S Main St., near South Post Oak Road.

The Menninger Clinic has expanded services during the pandemic to serve Greater Houston and patients who travel from other parts of Texas and the nation for mental health assessment and treatment. The Outpatient Services Center will house Menninger’s Sleep Medicine Service, Brain Stimulation Center, Outpatient Assessment Service, medication management, outpatient consultations and therapy, and will accommodate additional complementary programs as they develop.

JLL’s project management team is recognized for its scale and expertise—ranked No. 3 in Building Design + Construction’s 2019 Construction Management Giants survey and No. 4 on Engineering News-Record’s 2019 list of Top 100 Construction Management-for-Fee Firms. The firm’s global team includes approximately 6,500 project managers across 56 countries, actively managing an estimated $85 billion in projects under construction.
