HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants will open a 204-room boutique hotel within the Laneways development in Midtown, inside Houston’s Inner Loop.
The hotel will be part of a three-block complex bounded by Main, Fannin, Tuam and McGowen streets, developed by Caydon, an Australia-based real estate firm.
“Houston is the ideal place to expand our Texas footprint,” said Mike DeFrino, CEO at Kimpton, a San Francisco-based company. “Midtown is quickly solidifying its place as the heart of the city, and its diverse, cosmopolitan vibe fits perfectly with Kimpton’s brand of hospitality. Partnering with Caydon on their first U.S. development project is an incredible opportunity.”
The hotel, scheduled to open at the end of 2022, will feature a signature restaurant, a café, an expansive rooftop pool and bar with panoramic city views, and more than 14,000 square feet of indoor-outdoor meeting space integrated into a high-rise residential tower.
Laneways broke ground in early 2020 and spans three city blocks. The 2.5 million-square-foot mixed-use development will include multifamily residences, Drewery Place — Midtown’s first high-rise residential tower — ground-floor retail, public outdoor spaces and walkable laneways lined with shops, bars, coffeehouses and art galleries. With a focus on light, modern Australian-inspired design, Laneways’ concept and styling are being curated by Caydon Architecture and Design, the developer’s in-house team based in Melbourne.
“We are working with Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants to bring the first boutique hotel to Midtown, as we want to create a lively mixed-use development that captures the essence of the location,” said Joe Russo, principal of Caydon. “Positioned between two major employment centers — the Texas Medical Center and Downtown — Laneways will offer savvy travelers an upscale hotel experience with a homelike, community-oriented feel in one of Houston’s fastest-growing neighborhoods.”
Kimpton’s Global Senior Vice President of Design, Ave Bradley, will lead the hotel and restaurant design alongside architect group The Preston Partners.
This Kimpton property will join two other Kimpton hotels in Texas: the Kimpton Hotel Van Zandt in Austin and the Kimpton Pittman Hotel in Dallas, which was slated to open in summer 2020.
Kimpton is part of the InterContinental Hotels Group.
