HOUSTON — McNair Interests, founded by Houston Texans owner Bob McNair, has announced plans for a major high-rise, mixed-use development near the Galleria.

The six-acre site at the corner of Post Oak Boulevard and Richmond Avenue will feature a 180-room luxury Rosewood Hotel, 80 condominiums, multifamily residences, retail space, and an 18-story office tower totaling roughly 300,000 square feet.

Houston-based Patrinely Group will oversee the development, and the project’s design comes from the architecture firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.

“This is a defining development for McNair Interests and the city of Houston,” said Cary McNair, Chairman and CEO of McNair Interests. “Our vision redefines the southernmost entrance of Post Oak Boulevard and the Uptown District, fusing a distinctive, sophisticated design with Houston’s future.”

Dallas-based Rosewood Hotel Group issued a statement saying the luxury hotel is scheduled to open in 2023. The distant opening date suggests that construction will not begin immediately.

The hotel and condominium portion will be combined in a single tower expected to exceed 50 stories, while a separate high-rise will accommodate additional apartments. The property is currently vacant; a Steak & Ale restaurant previously occupied the site before McNair acquired it about four years ago.

“Texas is the birthplace of the Rosewood legacy, which launched with the Mansion on Turtle Creek in Dallas in 1979, so we are thrilled to expand our presence in one of Texas’ most vibrant cities,” said Sonia Cheng, Chief Executive Officer of Rosewood Hotel Group.

The development parcel lies just south of the Waterwall park, west of Loop 610, on the north side of Richmond Avenue—placing it within the heart of Houston’s Uptown district.
