Medistar to Build 92-Bed Psychiatric Hospital in Clear Lake, Houston
HOUSTON — Medistar Corporation, a Houston-based real estate developer, is building a 92-bed psychiatric hospital in Clear Lake City in southeast Houston, close to NASA’s Johnson Space Center. The facility, named Medical Behavioral Hospital of Clear Lake, will be operated by NeuroPsychiatric Hospitals (NPH).
Located at 16850 Buccaneer Lane near the intersection of Bay Area Boulevard and El Camino Real, the hospital is currently under construction and was scheduled to open in mid-2020. Once fully operational, the facility is expected to employ up to 200 staff members and host roughly 18 medical providers across psychiatry, internal medicine and neurology.
“I am excited to announce we are expanding our medical and neuropsychiatric services to this new hospital in the growing Clear Lake area of Houston, Texas,” said Dr. Cameron Gilbert, chairman of South Bend, Indiana–based NPH. “Focusing on patient needs and our hospital system’s clinical strengths have been the driving factors for this expansion.”
The Clear Lake City hospital will be NPH’s sixth facility and one of a relatively small number nationwide dedicated to treating patients who present with psychiatric illnesses alongside complex medical and neurological conditions. That integrated approach aims to address the dual needs of patients who require both psychiatric care and attention to coexisting medical or neurological issues.
Medistar, founded by developer Monzer Hourani, has an established portfolio of medical, multifamily and hospitality projects across the United States. In Houston’s Texas Medical Center, Medistar recently completed the 35-story Latitude tower with 374 residential units and the 22-story InterContinental Houston, a 353-room hotel on Main Street.
