Ev Konut Proje Award for Visionary of the Year

Ev Konut Proje editor Ralph Bivins has selected the most significant projects, deals and ideas of the Houston real estate market for 2015. These aren’t necessarily the largest or the first. But the deals point to future trends, potential gold mines, noble visions and notable accomplishments by the smart professionals who are making them happen.

William McRaven

Visionary of the Year – UT System Chancellor William McRaven. The University of Texas is purchasing 332 acres, about one mile south of Loop 610, for what McRaven calls an “intellectual hub” engaging professionals in medicine, energy, engineering and other disciplines. The site is only 3.5 miles from the Texas Medical Center and the university project could transform thousands of empty acres into valuable property. However, this is a governmental deal and the turf protectors at the University of Houston will oppose it. McRaven’s proposal could be a great thing for the city and civic leadership needs to rise above loyalties to the University of Houston and support this project.
