HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – Davidson Homes, a home builder based in Huntsville, Ala., announced it has expanded its operations into Texas and will begin constructing its first homes in the Houston area.
The company has secured lots in several communities aimed at both first-time and move-up buyers and plans to start construction by July. Davidson Homes currently has agreements in place for 329 lots across the Houston market.
As housing prices rise, duplex homes are gaining popularity, and Davidson Homes is including them in its Houston offerings. The firm has 78 duplex units planned, with prices starting in the low $200,000s.
Nationally, home sales are climbing to their fastest pace since September 2006.
Low mortgage rates, with many 30-year fixed-rate mortgages near 3 percent, have helped rekindle demand in the housing market.
According to newly released data from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Census Bureau, sales of new single-family homes increased 20.7% from an upwardly revised February figure, reaching a 1.02 million seasonally adjusted annual rate.
“Our members are seeing strong buyer traffic as continued low mortgage rates are helping fuel sales,” said Chuck Fowke, chairman of the National Association of Home Builders. “However, builders are still grappling with major supply chain issues and soaring materials costs, which are causing construction delays and preventing them from adding to the already very low inventory.”
For Davidson Homes, entering Texas marks the fourth state the company has expanded into over the past four years. The company now owns or controls more than 8,000 lots in 62 communities across Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.
“Texas is an important strategic growth market that will allow us to build on the incredibly strong foundation we have established,” said Adam Davidson, founder, president and CEO of Davidson Homes.
Davidson Homes has named veteran homebuilder Jim Rorison as division president to lead the company’s Houston operations. Rorison’s background includes leadership roles with Pulte and Caldwell Companies.
