HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – Hines has unveiled “The 1100 Experience,” a new immersive digital installation in a downtown Houston skyscraper.
As a centerpiece of the lobby renovation at 1100 Louisiana, the 32-foot digital screen represents the largest indoor commercial office digital installation of its kind in downtown Houston. The platform will showcase a diverse mix of digital art and creative work from local Houston artists, institutions, universities and community partners.
“Ownership wanted to elevate an already vibrant lobby by integrating large-scale digital media,” said Mark Janssen, Senior Property Manager at Hines. “We collaborated with a team of innovators to develop a plan that brings varied, unique content to tenants and visitors through meaningful community partnerships.”
Hines worked with global architecture and design firm Gensler to design this distinctive, immersive digital brand experience. The 1100 Experience will offer hours of rotating digital programming built around themes that are dynamically generated. Content includes digital art created by Houston’s visual and performing arts groups, nonprofit organizations, university students, local artists, NASA and other contributors. Three Texas universities have already committed to producing material and are aligning parts of their digital art curricula to take advantage of the new LED canvas.
The installation continually generates original content across four main themes: Beauty in Data, Change of State, Imagination Room, and Living Wall. The project was produced through a collaboration between Gensler’s Digital Experience Design and Brand Design teams, drawing on expertise from Gensler’s Houston and Chicago offices. Original creative development was completed by Float4, a digital studio based in Montreal.
“In today’s competitive real estate environment, 1100 Louisiana sought a distinct amenity that would be both entertaining and memorable,” said Jerry Alexander, Gensler Principal in Charge of the project. “Hines also aimed to deepen community connections and provide a platform for partnership. Our objective was to create experiences that feel familiar yet are always evolving—inviting people to slow down, linger and connect. The goal is to celebrate Houston while offering an immersive public experience unique to the central business district.”
Developed and managed by Hines, 1100 Louisiana is a 1.4 million-square-foot, 55-story office tower in downtown Houston. Clad in Spanish Rose granite and designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the building was completed by Hines in 1980 and has been managed by Hines since its development.
Colvill Office Properties handles leasing for the tower, which is currently 99 percent occupied by tenants including Enterprise Products Partners, L.P.; King & Spalding LLP; Ryder Scott Company, L.P.; and Gibbs & Bruns, L.L.P., among others.
Recent ground-floor upgrades converted the lobby into a hotel-inspired environment with updated furnishings and new stone wall finishes as part of the renovation.
For the display, Hines and Gensler selected NanoLumens to design the LED installation.
AV design-build integrator Conference Technologies installed and commissioned the 576-square-foot LED wall, intended as a community art piece that brings striking visual impact to a major downtown business landmark.
The display uses a 2.5mm pixel pitch, providing a high pixel density that delivers exceptional resolution and crisp imagery. “With this pixel capability, it’s an excellent platform for creative content to be developed and pushed to the limits,” said John Powell, Regional Vice President of Conference Technologies Inc.
