Uptown Redo Draws New Retailers

In Houston, Luby’s cafeteria is gone. California Pizza is gone and Brucettes Shoes took a walk.

It’s Post Oak Plaza, a shopping center where drive-by traffic is strong as garlic and the neighborhood’s average household income is close to $200,000 yearly. And Dinerstein Cos. recently completed an upscale 40-story apartment tower catty-cornered from the shopping center.

Levcor, a long-time player in the Houston’s shopping center business, is led by real estate veteran Larry Levine. The firm has owned Post Oak Plaza for years.

The developer has spent a fortune for a redo of Post Oak Plaza, a 137,000-SF shopping center at the southeast corner of intersection of Post Oak Boulevard and San Felipe Road in Uptown Houston.

“Post Oak Plaza serves a wide range of clientele in uptown at one of the most iconic intersections in the city of Houston,” said Justin Levine, Senior Vice President at Levcor.

Levcor didn’t just spruce up the Post Oak Plaza’s physical facilities. In the industry jargon, Levcor “upgraded the tenant mix.”

New restaurants and retailers joining the redeveloped Post Oak Plaza include:

Local Foods restaurant leased a 3,016-SF space which features an expansive patio. It will be its fourth location in the Houston area.

Arhaus, a leader in artisan crafted, sustainably sourced home furnishings, is relocating from the Centre at Post Oak. Arhaus’ new 22,201 SF space will sell furniture and décor.

Saatva is a mattress company with an immersive 4,000 SF Viewing Room.

These three brands join previously reported restaurants including Taco Deli, Rakkan Ramen, and retail including Bosch/Thermador/Gaggenau—all scheduled to open this year and the first half of 2024. Balboa Surf Club, Bluestone Lane, il Bracco, Kenny & Ziggy’s and Nando’s Peri Peri have all previously opened during the renovation.

Other retail, restaurants and services currently open at Post Oak Plaza during the renovation include Bill Walker Clothier, Bluestone Lane, Body20, Eye Elegance, FedEx, Home Source, il Bracco, Kenny & Ziggy’s, Madison Lily, Pinto Ranch, Post Oak Nail Lounge, Sensia, Toys to Love and UPS.

With leasing led by Brittney Austin, Linda Rubiola, and Rand Horowitz of Shop Companies, Post Oak Plaza is 98 percent leased.

“Post Oak Plaza is as a central dining and shopping destination to Houstonians and the completed renovation creates a more beautiful gathering space for our community,” said Sasha Levine, Vice President of Levcor. “We are thrilled to bring new restaurants and retail to Uptown Houston and expand the neighborhood’s options in our pedestrian-friendly space.”
