HOUSTON — MetroNational, a Houston-based real estate firm with substantial holdings in west Houston, will break ground later this month on an eight-story, 327-unit midrise rental apartment tower adjacent to Memorial City Mall.

Designed by Ziegler Cooper Architects Residential, a Houston firm with extensive experience in residential towers, the project will offer upscale amenities. Highlights include a rooftop, resort-style pool with open treetop views toward the Memorial Villages; a clubroom and resident lounge; a game room; a fitness center equipped with modern machines; a private rooftop pet park; and expansive gathering areas that foster an indoor/outdoor lifestyle.

The 327 apartments will comprise a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plans ranging from 555 to 1,796 square feet. Unit interiors will feature stainless-steel appliances, upgraded plumbing fixtures, under-mount sinks in kitchens and baths, 8’0″ interior doors, natural stone countertops, tile backsplashes, Bluetooth speakers and custom stained wood cabinetry. The building exterior is designed to complement the surrounding neighborhood using high-quality materials such as masonry and metal accents, along with enhanced exterior lighting.

The tower is planned for the northwest corner of Barryknoll Lane and Memorial City Way, with an anticipated opening in summer 2019.

“This project responds to long-term demand for luxury residences in the Memorial City area,” said Jason Johnson, MetroNational president and vice chairman. “In addition to this new multifamily development, MetroNational is delivering 133 high-end apartments atop the new Hotel ZaZa Memorial City in 2018.”

MetroNational has engaged Slate Real Estate Partners to assist with development of the residential tower. Slate is a privately held real estate investment firm led by Benjamin Pisklak and Mark Stevenson, former senior leaders at Gables Residential.

“The building’s innovative design and luxury amenities will complement the continued expansion of the Memorial City area,” said Benjamin Pisklak.

Memorial City is a 265-acre mixed-use development owned and managed by MetroNational. The campus includes 8.6 million square feet of Class A office space; major retail destinations including Memorial City Mall; midrise apartments; chef-driven restaurants; upscale hotels such as The Westin Memorial City and Hotel ZaZa Memorial City (opening 2017); and the Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center.

Founded in 1954, MetroNational owns and manages more than 9.2 million square feet of commercial real estate, primarily in Greater Houston. Its largest development is Memorial City in west Houston.
