Houston Residential Tower Reaches Major Construction Milestone

HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – MetroNational has reached a major construction milestone by topping out the 25-story residential tower at its Memorial City development in West Houston.

Named The McKinley Memorial City, the high-rise will contain 278 apartment units and is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2021.

The 332,231-square-foot building is located at 9757 Katy Freeway on the southwest corner of Bunker Hill Road and the Katy Freeway. The project was designed by Ziegler Cooper Architects and is being built by general contractor Anslow Bryant.

In February, MetroNational announced it had broken ground on an adjacent office building: a 190,000-square-foot, nine-story tower at 9753 Katy Freeway. That office project sits next to The McKinley and is part of the continuing build-out of Memorial City.

Following construction tradition, a ten-foot pine tree was raised to the tower’s highest point to mark placement of the final beam, celebrating a key milestone. Initial residents are expected to begin moving in next year.

Street-level programming at The McKinley includes approximately 4,500 square feet of retail or restaurant space, intended to activate the ground plane and serve both residents and the broader Memorial City community.

MetroNational notes that this parcel is one of the remaining undeveloped corner tracts along the Katy Freeway corridor between Loop 610 and Beltway 8. Over several decades, the Houston-based developer has assembled and developed the 265-acre Memorial City mixed-use campus.

Memorial City, owned and managed by MetroNational, now comprises roughly 9 million square feet of developed real estate. The campus blends Class A office buildings, retail including the super-regional Memorial City Mall, high-rise and midrise apartments such as The McAdams Memorial City, a variety of restaurants, the Westin Memorial City and Hotel ZaZa Memorial City hotels, the Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center, plus public gathering places like The Square and The Lawn at Memorial City.

Founded in 1954 and based in Houston, MetroNational currently owns and manages more than 9.6 million square feet of commercial real estate.
