HOUSTON – Aris Market Square, a new 32-story apartment tower developed by Hines in downtown Houston, introduces the city’s first “chef hall.”

Located at 409 Travis Street at Preston, just steps from Market Square Park and near the original Treebeard’s restaurant site, Aris Market Square was designed by Ziegler Cooper Architects in collaboration with SJL Design Group. The building contains 274 residences across approximately 327,000 square feet, including studios and one- and two-bedroom units, with sizes starting at 570 square feet and rising to a three-bedroom penthouse measuring 2,227 square feet.

The building’s ground floor includes a new culinary concept: a 9,100-square-foot restaurant called Bravery Chef Hall. Hines describes the space as an evolution of the traditional food hall—combining the quality of fine dining with the quick service model of counter dining.

Bravery Chef Hall will consist of five open-kitchen stations, each run by an individual chef and centered around a distinct dining concept. Stations are designed for counter-side seating, accommodating roughly 30 to 40 guests gathered around the chef, providing an interactive dining experience. The layout also serves casual patrons through walk-up ordering areas and offers ample seating within the hall, as well as to-go options.

The chef hall is the brainchild of Anh Mai and Lian Nguyen, the team behind Houston’s first food hall, Conservatory – Underground Beer Garden & Food Hall. Management of Bravery Chef Hall will be handled by veteran restaurateur and sommelier Shepard Ross.

Confirmed chefs include David Guerrero of Andes Café, Ben McPherson formerly of Krisp Bird & Batter, and Gary Ly, formerly of Underbelly. Two additional chef partners are expected to be announced. Beyond the five chef stations, the concept also incorporates two separate wine bars and a coffee and pastry counter, broadening the hall’s appeal for residents and visitors alike.

David Haltom, Director at Hines, said Bravery Chef Hall will be a distinctive on-site amenity for Aris Market Square residents, enhancing the building’s lifestyle offerings and contributing to the vibrancy of downtown Houston’s dining scene.
