No Santa Lap? Local Mall Replaces Visits with Holiday Plan B

SUGAR LAND – (Realty News Report) – With social distancing measures in place this season, Santa Claus will be spending most of his time at the North Pole, which means traditional visits and sitting on Santa’s lap at shopping centers aren’t happening.

However, families visiting Sugar Land Town Square will have a safe, imaginative alternative.

Children can interact with Santa through an innovative, lap-free experience: a magical holographic snow globe contained inside a giant wrapped gift, designed to preserve social distance while delivering holiday wonder.

The installation, called “Santa’s MAGI·SPHERE,” will open on November 27 in Sugar Land Town Square. It will act as a unique seasonal centerpiece for the 1.4 million-square-foot mixed-use district through Christmas Eve, offering a fresh approach to holiday engagement.

Housed in a 9,000-square-foot space formerly occupied by Z Gallerie, the attraction uses advanced holographic and mixed-reality technology to project Santa’s three-dimensional presence in real time. Guests can speak with Santa and share their holiday wishes without close physical contact, creating a memorable and safe experience.

“This is truly a unique and remarkable way to interact with Santa, and I know families will remember it for years to come,” said Brandon Oldenburg, Chief Creative Officer of Flight School Studio. “The use of emerging technology allows us to make storytelling and experiences much more extraordinary. This is especially impactful when re-inventing such a longstanding holiday tradition.”

Mixed Reality

Santa’s MAGI·SPHERE is presented by Flight School Studio, a Dallas-based creative group known for large-scale interactive installations. This activation previews Flight School’s forthcoming brick-and-mortar project at Sugar Land Town Square: a location-based mixed reality entertainment venue scheduled to open in early 2021.

Flight School’s creative team includes award-winning talent with honors from the Academy, Emmy, Annie, Cannes Lion, and Lumiere organizations. Their immersive activations have been featured at major events such as the Super Bowl, NBA All-Star Game, and the US Open.

Located at the intersection of U.S. 59 and Highway 6, Sugar Land Town Square is a major regional destination. The mixed-use center features 223,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, 566,000 square feet of Class A office space, 167 condominiums, a full-service Marriott hotel, and Sugar Land City Hall.

While Santa’s physical visits may be limited this year, Santa’s MAGI·SPHERE offers an inventive, socially distanced way for families to celebrate holiday traditions. If conditions allow, perhaps the real Santa and his reindeer will be back in Sugar Land in 2021.
