HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – Houston continues to see a rapid influx of new restaurants, a pace that would catch the attention of any quick-service operator.
“The fast-casual dining sector appears poised to remain extremely active, with concepts such as Uberrito, Checkers & Rally’s, Salata and B. Good expanding into or increasing their presence in the Houston market,” Transwestern noted in its first-quarter retail report. “That said, this growth is likely to put pressure on traditional sit-down restaurants.”
Checkers Restaurants, the Tampa-based burger chain, announced plans to open 20 quick-service locations across the Houston area this year.
Paul Vernon, Executive Vice President in the Retail Division at Henry S. Miller Brokerage, represented The Toasted Yolk Café in two recent lease transactions in Houston and Sugar Land.
A new Toasted Yolk franchisee signed for a 5,000-square-foot, second-generation restaurant space in the Americana Shopping Center, located at the southeast corner of Westheimer and Fountainview. The center already features tenants such as Los Cucos Mexican Café, Chama Gaúcha Brazilian Steakhouse and Mayuri India Restaurant.
Toasted Yolk Café also leased a location adjacent to Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille in Sugar Land Town Square. Paul Vernon of Henry S. Miller Brokerage represented Toasted Yolk in these deals.
“As in recent years, a defining feature of retail real estate expansion is the aggressive growth of national, regional and local restaurant concepts of all sizes,” Wulfe & Co. wrote in its 25th Annual Retail Survey. “Houston has earned national and international recognition for its many innovative and exciting dining destinations. From casual concepts to upscale specialty restaurants, eateries drive foot traffic, create energy, and contribute significantly to a project’s success and vitality.”
On a national level, restaurant and bar sales rose 0.4 percent in March, according to Colliers International.
