Amazon Expands Houston Footprint with Four New Delivery Centers

HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – Amazon has announced four new delivery stations in the Houston area to support its “last mile” delivery network.

Ranging from 140,000 to 360,000 square feet, the four delivery stations are scheduled to open in 2021.

The new Amazon delivery facilities, totaling approximately 860,000 square feet, are planned at the following locations:

  • 11311 N. Gessner Drive in Houston — a 140,000-square-foot build-to-suit facility.
  • Northcrest and Spring Stuebner Road in Spring — a 220,000-square-foot build-to-suit facility.
  • Interstate 59 and Grand Parkway in Porter — a 140,000-square-foot build-to-suit facility.
  • 9155 Derrington Road in Houston — a 360,000-square-foot facility located in an existing building leased by Amazon.

These projects form part of Amazon’s broader expansion of its distribution and delivery infrastructure. The company has been rapidly adding facilities across the country, with roughly 1,000 projects in the near-term pipeline as it scales operations to meet growing customer demand.

The rise of e-commerce, a trend accelerated by the COVID‑19 pandemic, continues to drive strong demand for industrial real estate. Industry forecasts anticipate substantial growth in online retail sales over the coming years, which in turn increases pressure on warehouse and distribution capacity. As e-commerce volumes grow, companies like Amazon are investing in more fulfillment, sortation and delivery stations to improve speed and reliability.

Nationwide, the warehouse sector is experiencing a remarkable expansion. Current construction activity includes millions of square feet of new industrial space as developers and retailers respond to surging demand for logistics capacity and last-mile locations.

In the Houston region specifically, Amazon already has two large distribution projects under construction: a roughly 1 million-square-foot building in Missouri City and an approximately 850,000-square-foot building in Richmond. The addition of the four delivery stations announced here is intended to streamline the final stage of the order fulfillment process.

Delivery stations receive packages from nearby Amazon fulfillment and sortation centers. From these stations, packages are loaded into delivery vehicles and sent out for final delivery to customers across the greater Houston area. By placing additional delivery stations near dense population centers, Amazon aims to shorten delivery routes, reduce transit times and increase overall operational efficiency.

The four new delivery stations are expected to create more than 300 new full-time jobs, with a starting wage of $15 per hour.

“We look forward to continuing our growth in Texas and want to thank local and state leaders for their support in making these projects possible,” said Daniel Martin, an Amazon spokesperson.
