FULSHEAR, Texas – Alder Mesa Holdings has broken ground on Alders at Cross Creek, a new senior living apartment community located in Cross Creek Ranch on Houston’s west side.
The development will feature 172 one- and two-bedroom apartment homes for residents aged 62 and older. Pre-leasing is expected to begin in mid-2022, with the community scheduled for completion in January 2023.
“We design and build our communities with today’s active adult in mind,” said Tim O’Hanlon, president of Alder Mesa Holdings. “Our communities are highly amenitized, offering residents abundant opportunities for recreation and socialization. It’s about creating a special place to call home with a sought-after lifestyle.”
Fulshear – A Hotbed for Active Adult Housing
Alders at Cross Creek is one of several seniors-oriented housing projects underway in Fulshear, located roughly five miles west of the Grand Parkway. The area has attracted multiple active-adult developments as demand for age-targeted housing grows.
ULI Houston Suburban Marketplace Conference
Del Webb, the active-adult developer within the Pulte Group, recently announced a project in Fulshear, according to Lindy Oliva, division president for Pulte in Houston. Speaking at the ULI Houston Suburban Marketplace conference, Oliva said the active-adult seniors housing sector remains strong. Del Webb’s Fulshear community, situated on FM 359, is expected to open next summer.
Preparing for Aging Generation X
At the same conference, Brent Herrington, president of DMB Development, observed that the leading edge of Generation X has recently reached age 55. Defined as those born roughly between 1965 and 1980, Gen X follows the Baby Boomer cohort and precedes the Millennials, and its aging will further expand demand for age-focused housing options.
Cross Creek Ranch Ranked No. 36 Nationally
The Alders at Cross Creek community will include about 19,000 square feet of club-like amenities designed to support active lifestyles and social engagement. Planned amenities include a pub-style game room with private wine lockers, an internet coffee bar, heated pool and spa, fitness center, movie theater, arts and crafts room, hair and nail salon, putting green and a dog park.
“This is a valuable addition to the type of housing offered in Cross Creek Ranch,” said Rob Bamford, general manager of Cross Creek Ranch. “We already have many multi-generational families living here, and Alders at Cross Creek will enable more grandparents to live near their children and grandchildren.”
Alders at Cross Creek will be the fourth Alders senior community. Other properties include Alders at Rockwall near Dallas (144 units), Alders at Magnolia north of Houston (184 units), and Alders at Twin Creeks in Allen (243 units), the latter operating under the Larkspur senior living brand.
Cross Creek Ranch, ranked No. 36 among the nation’s 50 top-selling communities, encompasses approximately 3,200 acres in Fulshear. The community features homes priced from the $260,000s offered by nine builders and is situated along the Westpark Tollway and the Texas Heritage Parkway, currently under construction.
