HOUSTON — (Realty News Report) — Howard Hughes Corp., the developer behind The Woodlands, is moving forward with a new multifamily project within Bridgeland, its large master-planned community on Houston’s northwest side.
Bridgeland Central — A New Town Center
The project, named Starling at Bridgeland, will include 358 apartment units and will be part of Bridgeland Central, a future 900-acre town center within the larger 11,400-acre Bridgeland community. Bridgeland Central is planned as a mixed-use, walkable hub that will connect residential neighborhoods with retail, dining and open green space.
Howard Hughes Corp. describes the development as an “urban multifamily community” designed to support an active, healthy lifestyle. “Our goal is to promote an active, healthy lifestyle and provide our residents with walkable communities in natural settings, with expansive open green space and sought-after urban shopping and dining amenities,” said Heath Melton, Executive Vice President of Master Planned Communities, Residential for The Howard Hughes Corp.
Starling at Bridgeland will be the first multifamily component in Bridgeland Central. Construction on the town center is slated to begin later this month, and the apartment buildings will be developed on a 15.2-acre site at the intersection of Bridgeland Creek Parkway and Bridgeland High School Drive in Parkland Village.
The approximately 350,000-square-foot project will offer one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plans. Residences will include modern conveniences such as smart thermostats, keyless entry, nine-foot-plus ceilings and quartz countertops. Short-term lease options will also be available to accommodate households who are building homes within Bridgeland.
Construction is expected to be completed by summer 2022.
Why “Starling”
The apartment community takes its name from the starling, a songbird celebrated for intelligence, social behavior and striking aerial formations—qualities that inspired artists like Shakespeare and Mozart. The name reflects the community’s emphasis on adaptability, beauty and communal living.
Bridgeland, which opened in 2006, is situated south of the Grand Parkway and Highway 290 interchange, approximately 30 miles northwest of downtown Houston in the Cypress area. The master-planned community has seen strong residential demand: Bridgeland ranked among the top 10 master-planned communities in the nation for new home sales at midyear 2020, according to RCLCO advisory firm data. In the first half of 2020 Bridgeland recorded 425 new home sales, a 21 percent increase from 351 in the same period of 2019.
