HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – The Asian American Chamber of Commerce has donated more than $42,000 worth of medical supplies to the City of Houston in response to urgent requests for personal protective equipment.
“As a united community—including Chinese-American, Korean-American, Vietnamese-American, Japanese-American, Filipino-American and other AAPI groups—we are committed to helping Houston through this difficult time and will support Mayor Sylvester Turner and the City of Houston in whatever is needed,” said Bin Yu, Chair of the Asian Chamber Board.
These supplies will play a crucial role in the city’s efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19 and to protect employees who work with populations at higher risk of exposure.
The Chamber donated the following items:

10,000 masks

40 gallons of hand sanitizer

825 isolation gowns
-
270 protective goggles
-
500 face shields
-
250 boot covers
-
3,600 gloves
“I want to thank the Asian Chamber of Commerce for their generosity,” said Mayor Sylvester Turner. “Despite business losses and other challenges resulting from COVID-19, they remained committed to giving back to the wider community.”
The donated supplies will be distributed among the Houston Fire Department, Houston Police Department, Houston Health Department, and other City of Houston personnel who need protective equipment.
Illy Jaffer, a Houston Health Department employee and member of the Asian American Chamber of Commerce board, played a key role in coordinating this donation.
