SNOOK, Texas – (Realty News Report) – Century Communities, one of the nation’s largest home builders, has launched a new subdivision in Snook, a small historic town approximately 90 miles from Houston.
Snook, with a population of about 545, was settled in the 1880s by Czech immigrants drawn to the region’s fertile farmland and agricultural opportunities.
Century Communities is developing Grand Lake in Snook, a neighborhood of 14 single-family homes with pricing beginning in the low $200,000s. The community is conveniently located about a 20-minute drive from Texas A&M University, offering easy access to campus amenities and services.
Headquartered in Greenwood Village, Colorado, Century Communities is publicly traded and expanding in the Houston region. Along with Grand Lake in Snook, the company is opening four other communities in the greater Houston area, including projects in Willis, Bryan, and Huntsville.
The Expanding Houston Metropolitan Area
New home construction and residential development now span a broad area of the Houston metropolitan region. Alongside Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston consistently ranks among the nation’s top markets for housing starts, reflecting sustained demand and growth.
From Galveston in the south to Willis in the north—a distance of roughly 100 miles—the Houston area remains a hive of development activity.
About three years ago, Howard Hughes Corp. introduced The Woodlands Hills, a new, 2,000-acre master-planned community located 13 miles north of The Woodlands. Positioned as a northern complement to the larger Woodlands master plan, The Woodlands Hills, inside the Willis school district, is planned for roughly 4,500 homes at full build-out.
John S. Snook
The town of Snook is named for John S. Snook, credited with establishing the U.S. Post Office there in 1895. Basic telephone service reached Snook in 1901, according to historical records cited by the Texas Almanac.
Century Communities emphasizes modern sales tools, including the ability to market and sell single-family homes online, offering buyers the convenience of browsing and purchasing homes via the internet in Snook and other southeastern Texas locations.
Other Century Communities projects announced in the region include Teal Crossing, a 67-home development in Willis; Thomas Heights, a seven-home project in Bryan; Crown Point, a 94-home community in Huntsville; and Foxwood Crossing, a 107-home subdivision in Bryan.
