Ric Campo
HOUSTON—(Realty News Report) – Ric Campo, a prominent Houston apartment developer, was appointed Chairman of the Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority on Thursday in a joint session convened by the City of Houston and the Harris County Commissioners Court.
Campo serves as Chairman and CEO of Camden Property Trust, a publicly traded real estate investment trust (REIT) that owns 159 apartment communities totaling 54,480 units nationwide.
“The best is yet to come for our region, and our port will help drive us into a bright future,” Campo said, emphasizing the port’s role in the local economy and regional growth.
The appointment took place at Port Houston’s executive offices and was overseen by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo. Under state law, the Chair of the Port Commission is selected in a joint session by the governing bodies of the City of Houston and the Harris County Commissioners Court.
Campo succeeds Janiece Longoria, whose third and final term as chair expires on Feb. 1.
Camden Property Trust, based in Houston, employs approximately 1,600 people. The company is currently building its first ground-up high-rise in the city: a $140 million, 20-story residential tower with 275 units adjacent to the Toyota Center in downtown Houston.
