Tri Pointe Homes: Trendmaker Homes Rebrands with New Name

HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – Trendmaker Homes, a recognizable Texas homebuilder since 1971, has been retired as a standalone brand.

Tri Pointe Homes, the parent company, announced that Trendmaker and five other regional builders will be consolidated and rebranded under a single corporate name: Tri Pointe Homes Inc.

Tri Pointe Homes ranks among the nation’s largest homebuilders, with about $3 billion in annual revenue, according to Builder magazine.

In a move tied to broader corporate migration trends, Tri Pointe also disclosed that it has relocated its headquarters from Irvine, California, to Incline Village, Nevada, near Lake Tahoe. The shift follows a wave of companies relocating out of California in recent months.

In Houston, Trendmaker was known for serving the move-up buyer, producing larger, higher-quality homes than typical starter houses. Historically, the builder averaged more than 500 homes a year in many seasons.

Will Holder, the former Trendmaker president in Houston, was a visible industry leader and served as president of the Greater Houston Builders Association in 2012.

Trendmaker expanded into the Austin market in 2015 and entered Dallas in 2019, reflecting its regional growth ambitions.

Originally, Trendmaker was one of five regional builders that operated as subsidiaries of Weyerhaeuser Company, a major lumber and building products firm. In 2014, TRI Pointe Homes acquired those five regional builders from Weyerhaeuser for $2.8 billion.

“Our merger with WRECO and the acquisition of its five regional homebuilding brands in 2014 transformed us into one of the largest home building companies in the country, and the multiple brand approach we inherited has served us well over the past six years,” said Doug Bauer, CEO of Tri Pointe Homes. “During that time, we successfully established an overarching vision and culture across the company while fostering the long-standing, trusted relationships our local leadership teams have forged over the years with land sellers and trade partners. That pillar of operating as the best of big and small, with local expertise and relationships backed by company-wide financial resources and powerful technology platforms, will continue to define Tri Pointe Homes as we look to the future.”

Homes built by Trendmaker and the other regional builders will continue to be produced, now under the unified Tri Pointe brand.

Consolidating into one national brand is intended to increase brand recognition and support potential expansion into new states.

“The strategic decision to operate as one brand comes as we continue to organically grow our divisions across the country and look to drive more operational efficiencies at all levels of the organization,” Bauer added. “Operating as one brand will allow us to concentrate our functional efforts around one brand instead of six while creating a stronger national awareness for the company.”

Before the rebrand, TRI Pointe’s regional portfolio included: Tri Pointe Homes in California, Colorado and the Carolinas; Maracay in Arizona; Pardee Homes in California and Nevada; Quadrant Homes in Washington; Trendmaker Homes in Texas; and Winchester Homes in Maryland and Northern Virginia.

Tri Pointe Homes is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange.
