HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – Construction has reached the topping-out milestone on a nine-story expansion to Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center.
The multi-year project broke ground in early 2020 and is scheduled to open as a patient-ready Level II trauma center by spring 2022.
The Woodlands, developed by Howard Hughes Corp., is a 28,000-acre master-planned community located about 27 miles north of downtown Houston.
JLL Project and Development Services, which is managing the construction, announced the topping out of the 365,000-square-foot South Tower addition to the Memorial Hermann medical campus at 9250 Pinecroft.
Austin Commercial is serving as general contractor, PhiloWilke is the architect, and SSA is the engineer for the expansion.
JLL professionals James Selmser, Mark Harrison, Daina Pitzenberger, Steven Donnelly and Rosanna Brock coordinated closely with Memorial Hermann Health System leadership — CEO Justin Kenrick, COO Jason Glover, CNO Catherine Giegerich and Vice President of Marketing Linda Nelson — to oversee construction and to implement innovative delivery and design strategies throughout the project.
“Through this process, we’ve worked to ensure that this tower was built exactly for the patients and providers who will utilize it every day,” said Memorial Hermann CEO Justin Kenrick. “The addition of the South Tower will provide much-needed capacity and services to the area. Memorial Hermann is honored to serve The Woodlands community and looks forward to the future.”
JLL’s Project and Development Services team manages design, development and construction for commercial real estate projects, guiding complex healthcare builds from concept to completion.
The hospital expansion’s design incorporates lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic, including expanded social distancing in waiting areas, flexible quick-turn treatment spaces, strategically placed emergency entrances and increased clearances for medical equipment and patient movement.
To support increased visitation, two additional floors were added to the adjacent parking garage, providing 404 new parking spaces, and the northeast surface lot was enlarged to add another 200 spaces. After the South Tower is finished, the hospital will undergo an additional 146,000 square feet of interior renovations to modernize and expand existing services.
