HOUSTON — Spaces, a creative workspace company based in Amsterdam, has signed a lease for 25,000 square feet in Midway’s Kirby Grove development, marking its first co-working location in Houston.
Spaces positions its locations as creative work environments tailored to a wide range of professionals, including corporate innovators, freelancers, entrepreneurs, international and mobile workers, start-ups and established companies.
Scheduled to open in spring 2018, Spaces will occupy the entire sixth floor of the LEED Gold-certified office building within the mixed-use Kirby Grove project, developed by Midway in partnership with institutional investors advised by J.P. Morgan Asset Management.
“What makes Spaces unique is the community we’ve worked to cultivate,” said Michael Berretta, Vice President of Network Development, Americas at Spaces. “We offer a global network of workspaces and a full calendar of business events, speakers and networking lunches, and it all keeps members of our community engaged and open to new possibilities.”
Kirby Grove sits on the south side of Richmond Avenue, east of Kirby Drive, inside Houston’s Inner Loop. The project establishes a community-focused, mixed-use environment in the Upper Kirby District by integrating Midway’s Kirby Class-A office space with Avenue Grove’s upscale lofts, restaurants and the renovated Levy Park nearby.
“Midway creates places for the way people want to work today,” said Jonathan Brinsden, CEO of Houston-based Midway. “Work has become more collaborative and the pace of change is accelerating. Office environments that can adapt to rapidly expanding teams and the varied roles businesspeople fill are a competitive advantage.”
As part of Kirby Grove, the Upper Kirby Redevelopment Authority has transformed Levy Park into a celebrated urban public space that serves as a community hub and a venue for events and programming. Within its first year, Levy Park earned recognition from the Urban Land Institute for excellence in urban green space design.
Midway’s portfolio includes approximately 45 million square feet of projects completed or underway across 23 states and northern Mexico. Their holdings span office and industrial facilities, corporate headquarters, mixed-use centers, industrial parks and master-planned communities.
On Main Street in downtown Houston, Midway’s Jones at Main redevelopment has attracted major tenants such as WeWork, which recently leased 86,000 square feet there.
