HOUSTON – The Zimmermans, through NewForm Real Estate and in partnership with Hines, have revealed further plans for the renovation and expansion of the La Colombe d’Or Hotel in the Montrose neighborhood.
Beyond the previously announced 34-story tower, The Residences at La Colombe d’Or, the hotel’s footprint will be expanded to include a total of 32 guest rooms distributed across the historic Mansion, a new Tower component and a cluster of Garden Bungalows.
The property sits on Montrose Boulevard, a couple of blocks south of Westheimer Road, at a prominent intersection inside Houston’s Inner Loop.
Built in 1923 as the Fondren family residence, the La Colombe d’Or Mansion was converted into a hotel after its acquisition in 1979. Owned by the Zimmerman family for four decades, the property has long been recognized as a distinctive boutique hotel and cultural touchstone in Houston.
“La Colombe d’Or Hotel has provided a unique hospitality experience for visitors to Houston and an elevated dining destination for residents for forty years,” said Dan Zimmerman, President of NewForm Real Estate. “These renovations and additions honor the mansion’s history and grandeur while introducing a refreshed, modern aesthetic.”
Key elements of the redevelopment include:
The Mansion: The historic mansion, designated as a landmark, will undergo a comprehensive renovation and careful restoration to preserve its architectural character while updating interiors and infrastructure for contemporary hospitality standards.
The Tower: Eighteen hotel suites will occupy the lower levels of The Residences at La Colombe d’Or. These hotel accommodations will be connected to the Mansion via a landscaped pass-through garden, creating a seamless link between old and new.
Garden Bungalows: Nine intimate suites arranged around a landscaped courtyard will form the Garden Bungalows. Accessible from the new tower by a pedestrian walkway, these bungalows emphasize privacy and a garden-oriented guest experience.
Together, the restored Mansion, the Tower suites and the Garden Bungalows will offer a mix of historic charm and contemporary amenities, reinforcing La Colombe d’Or’s role as a boutique hospitality destination within Montrose.
