CHICAGO – (Realty News Report) – River Point partners Ivanhoé Cambridge, Hines and Levy Family Partners have announced the installation of Constellation, a sculptural work by Santiago Calatrava, in River Point Park.
The vivid red, leaf-inspired sculpture is being assembled on the green space adjacent to the 52-story River Point office tower in Chicago’s West Loop.
Santiago Calatrava, the internationally recognized architect, structural engineer and sculptor, designed this distinctive piece to complement the park setting at River Point. According to the developers, Calatrava intended the work “to simply grow from the ground.” Each element of the sculpture follows its own internal logic, producing lyrical forms that evoke a sense of uplift and spiritual elevation while echoing the mirrored arch of the adjacent building.
“River Point is a world-class project that has reshaped the iconic Chicago skyline,” said Jim Walsh, Senior Managing Director at Hines’ Chicago regional office. “The reflections of the bright red sculpture on the river and the glass tower will be a striking sight. It brings a compelling artistic element to our plaza and the riverfront.”
“Chicagoans have eagerly anticipated this sculpture,” said Larry Levy, Managing Partner of Levy Family Partners. “We are pleased to welcome it as a new focal point in the city’s long tradition of exceptional architecture and outdoor public sculpture. The model used to select the Calatrava piece will be displayed at the Art Institute of Chicago alongside models for other notable works in the city.”
The 1.1 million-square-foot River Point office tower opened in 2017 and is co-owned by Hines, Ivanhoé Cambridge—the real estate investment arm of Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec—and Levy Family Partners. The tower was designed by Pickard Chilton Architects.
In addition to River Point, Hines and Ivanhoé Cambridge are developing a 47-story Texas Tower on the former Houston Chronicle site on Texas Avenue in Houston.
Founded in 1957 and based in Houston, Hines operates in 205 cities across 24 countries and manages approximately $133.3 billion in assets.
