Engineering Firm Expands Office Space to Accommodate 300 New Hires

The 1700 West Loop South building in Houston was acquired in 2017 by Lingerfelt CommonWealth Partners.

HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – Burns & McDonnell, a multidisciplinary engineering, architecture and construction firm, has expanded its lease at 1700 West Loop South. The lease enlargement enables the company to hire up to 300 additional employees by 2021.

The expansion adds 60,000 square feet to Burns & McDonnell’s Houston footprint, increasing its leased space from 158,000 square feet to 218,000 square feet.

JLL brokers Scott Fikes and Jenny Mueller represented the building owner, Lingerfelt CommonWealth Partners, LLC, a Richmond, Virginia–based commercial real estate investment firm.

Cushman & Wakefield’s Joe Peddie represented Burns & McDonnell in the transaction.

“With our expansion, we’ll continue to recruit top-tier talent to deliver world-class solutions and broaden our integrated capabilities across environmental services, engineering, procurement and construction delivery,” said Leslie Duke, president and general manager for Burns & McDonnell in Houston.

Burns & McDonnell’s Houston operation is supported by a global workforce of approximately 7,000 employees and more than 50 offices worldwide, including regional locations in Houston, Austin, Dallas and Fort Worth.

Lingerfelt CommonWealth acquired the West Loop building in June 2017 in a deal handled by JLL.

“Since acquiring the building roughly two years ago, it has been a pleasure working with Burns & McDonnell. They are a valued tenant, and we are delighted to strengthen our long-term relationship,” said Jay Kraft, senior vice president of Lingerfelt CommonWealth. “This significant lease reinforces our confidence in the Houston market and supports our pursuit of additional acquisition opportunities.”
