AUSTIN — HomeAway, a major vacation rental company, will relocate its headquarters and roughly 2,000 employees into a new 16-story office tower planned for The Domain, Austin’s mixed-use development.
The 315,000-square-foot tower is a joint project led by Dallas-based TIER REIT and Austin-based Endeavor Real Estate Group. Groundbreaking is scheduled for this summer, and the building is expected to be finished in early 2019.
Set at the intersection of Domain Drive and Alterra Parkway, the building was designed by Gensler, with interior architecture and design led by Rios Clementi Hale Studios of Los Angeles. DPR has been selected as the general contractor responsible for the core and shell construction.
HomeAway reported $2.7 billion in vacation rental bookings during the first quarter of 2017, underscoring the company’s rapid growth and the need for expanded, centralized office space in Austin.
The Domain high-rise will feature an open, collaborative layout and a range of employee amenities: secure bike storage, outdoor balcony areas, a dedicated lawn for meetings and fitness activities, plus shower and locker facilities to support active commutes and flexible work styles.
Currently, HomeAway operates multiple offices across Austin, including locations downtown, in North Austin and in South Austin. The new Domain tower will enable the company to consolidate many teams into a centralized corporate campus while retaining satellite presences downtown and in South Austin.
Over the past two years, the number of HomeAway’s technology employees in Austin has increased by approximately 50 percent, reflecting continued expansion of its local workforce.
