HOUSTON — Sami Khaleeq, a Houston entrepreneur with expertise in cybersecurity and digital media, has been appointed by Mayor Sylvester Turner to the Houston Planning and Airport Commission.
At one of the youngest appointees to the commission, Khaleeq will help shape policy affecting growth, development, and transportation in Houston—one of the nation’s fastest-growing and most diverse cities. The commission’s work influences land use, airport planning, and infrastructure decisions that impact residents, businesses, and visitors across the region.
The installation ceremony at City Hall drew supporters, colleagues, and community leaders from across Texas and the nation. Attendees included guests from Washington, D.C., Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas; members of the Consular Corps; elected officials from various offices; and representatives from diverse civic and cultural organizations.
“Sami, you are one of the youngest to serve,” Mayor Turner said at the event. “You probably brought the largest delegation of anyone. I am in awe. So, let me thank all of you for coming and supporting not only Sami but the entire group. Congratulations.”
Khaleeq is founder of CGS, a Houston-based digital media marketing and consulting firm, and ARES Cyber Group, a cybersecurity consultancy specializing in digital forensics and cybercrime investigations. He also serves on multiple advisory boards and community organizations, including the World Chamber of Commerce Texas, OPEN Houston for entrepreneurs, and advisory boards for Houston Community College and San Jacinto College.
As co-author of the book Rise of the Personal Brand, Khaleeq writes and speaks about building brands and businesses in an era dominated by social media and digital communication. His marketing background informs his approach to public engagement and community outreach.
District Attorney Brian Middleton praised the appointment: “Sami is an incredibly intelligent individual. I am deeply thankful to the City Council for this insightful appointment. Having someone of Sami’s character serve our community is indeed a gift.”
Beyond business and branding, Khaleeq has applied his technical skills to combat human trafficking. As a Certified Human Trafficking Investigator, he has launched awareness programs and worked closely with federal agencies and local law enforcement on cyber trafficking and online grooming cases. His work focuses on prevention, victim support, and the use of technology for investigative purposes.
“Houston is a city of opportunities, a melting pot of cultures, and a hub of innovation,” Khaleeq said following the announcement. “I am honored to be appointed to the city’s planning and airport commission and I appreciate the Mayor and City Council’s remarkable display of commitment to young leaders and the pursuit of future excellence. This appointment is not just a milestone for me but a meaningful moment for Houston. The trust placed in me reflects a forward-looking city that embraces inclusivity, innovation, and the dedication of a new generation.”
Khaleeq’s service on the commission aligns with his ongoing civic engagement, expanding his public role at a time when Houston faces significant planning and transportation challenges, including airport capacity, neighborhood development, and equitable infrastructure investment.
