Chef Tim Love to Open The Woodshed in Houston’s Levy Park Redevelopment

Chef Tim Love to open The Woodshed at redeveloped Levy Park, near Kirby Drive in Houston.

HOUSTON — Texas-based chef and restaurateur Tim Love, known for hosting CNBC’s Restaurant Startup, will open The Woodshed at the newly redeveloped Levy Park in Houston’s Inner Loop near Kirby Drive and Richmond Avenue.

Renowned for his “urban western” cuisine, Love is widely recognized for his flagship Lonesome Dove Western Bistro in Fort Worth’s historic stockyards. His culinary approach blends bold, rustic flavors with contemporary techniques tailored to vibrant city neighborhoods.

“Houston is a dynamic city with outstanding restaurants and a rich cultural scene,” Love said. “I’m excited to partner with Levy Park to create a lively food and beverage destination for the neighborhood. The park’s renovation signals a period of growth, and I look forward to serving the community and celebrating this special city with my fellow Texans.”

The Upper Kirby District Foundation, which led the Levy Park redevelopment, worked with Greg Lewis of Lewis Property Co. in Houston to negotiate the partnership with Love.

The Woodshed is slated to open in mid-2018. In addition to the restaurant, Love’s team will operate concessions at the park’s food kiosk and manage a modified double-decker bus outfitted for beverage service in the park’s beer garden. Those smaller operations are planned to open later this year.

On CNBC, Love evaluates restaurant concepts and entrepreneurs, applying his industry experience to assess business plans and growth potential. He runs a multi-state restaurant group stretching from Seattle to Knoxville, while maintaining deep ties to Texas.

In Texas, Love owns and operates several notable concepts, including Woodshed Smokehouse; Queenie’s Steakhouse; Love Shack; the White Elephant Saloon; and a second Austin location of Lonesome Dove Western Bistro. He has also expanded beyond Texas with Lonesome Dove and Love Shack locations in Knoxville, Tennessee, his alma mater city.

Levy Park covers six acres just north of the Southwest Freeway and will mark its grand opening on February 25. The park’s transformation was executed in partnership with Midway Cos., a Houston developer behind mixed-use projects such as CityCentre in West Houston and GreenStreet downtown.

Adjacent to the park, Midway recently completed Kirby Grove, a 16-story office building with approximately 225,000 square feet of office space and 25,000 square feet allocated for retail and restaurant tenants. Midway’s broader development near Levy Park also includes Avenue Grove, a 270-unit multifamily community, contributing to the neighborhood’s increased activity and foot traffic.
