HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – Ralph Bivins will sign and discuss Houston 2020: America’s Boom Town – An Extreme Close Up on Thursday, Jan. 30. The drop-in event runs from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at River Oaks Bookstore, 3270 Westheimer, across from Lamar High School.

In this timely book, Houston journalist Ralph Bivins examines the entrepreneurial city that has become one of the nation’s fastest-growing metropolitan areas.

With clear analysis and informed observation, Bivins traces the forces that shaped Houston and brought the city to a pivotal moment. Its vigorous expansion presents major challenges for civic leaders who must address mounting economic pressures, transportation shortfalls and recurring flooding that risks becoming a chronic problem.

Bivins, recently awarded first place for Best Column by the National Association of Real Estate Editors (NAREE), explores the urban geography and distinctive real estate markets of the expansive Texas metropolis, which covers more than six hundred square miles.

The book is available online at Amazon and at select bookstores.

Houston 2020: America’s Boom Town – An Extreme Close Up (Fifth Estate Media – $29.99) identifies the projects, people and growth centers that will determine whether this boom town evolves into a mature megalopolis or strains under its rapid expansion.

Dr. James P. Gaines, chief economist at the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University, praised the book’s reporting for its regional scope, which reaches across the 10,000-square-mile Greater Houston area.

“Houston is, indeed, like no other city in the country and maybe the world,” Gaines writes in the book’s introduction. “The fast-paced changes taking place have been witnessed and chronicled by Ralph Bivins over the years and presented in a remarkable work.”

Houston 2020 presents insights from leading business figures, including developer Gerald D. Hines, homebuilder David Weekley and civic leader Ric Campo, CEO of Camden Property Trust.

Bivins is the founding editor of Realty News Report, a Texas-based publication.
