Land Tejas Begins Construction on 850-Acre Development Near Highway 288

Sierra Vista Groundbreaking

IOWA COLONY, Texas – Land Tejas, a Houston-based developer, has begun construction on Sierra Vista, a new 850-acre community located near Highway 288 south of Houston.

Sierra Vista is positioned as a sister community to the nearby Sterling Lakes, also developed by Land Tejas. Home prices start in the low $200,000s, with new homes available from builders Anglia Homes, CastleRock Communities, D.R. Horton and Westin Homes.

“We are in the very early stages of development, and already we have our first sale,” said Tim Johnson of Land Tejas. “This is going to be a top-selling community.”

Situated in northern Brazoria County, Iowa Colony was established in 1908 by the Immigration Land Company of Des Moines, Iowa, according to the city’s website. The city uses the slogan “Where We Make it Happen.” In 2010, Iowa Colony’s population was 1,170.

Sierra Vista marks the eighteenth community developed by Land Tejas, which has operated in the Houston area for more than 20 years. Over the past year the developer has opened four other communities: Etteridge in Humble, Lago Mar in Texas City, Wedgewood Forest in Conroe and Balmoral in Humble. The company is also preparing to launch Vanbrooke, a new community near Fulshear in the western suburbs.

Land Tejas is also the developer behind the successful Canyon Lakes West community, including the Miramesa neighborhood within Canyon Lakes West. Canyon Lakes West ranks among the 50 top-selling master-planned communities in the nation, according to Robert Charles Lesser & Co.
