HOUSTON – Commerce Towers, an iconic residential high-rise in downtown Houston, is preparing for a significant renovation.

Premier Towers LP, owner of the 25-story building, announced plans for a major makeover. The property at 914 Main Street contains 140 units, a mix of rental apartments and owner-occupied condominiums.

Built in 1928 by developer and businessman Jesse H. Jones, Commerce Towers has long been a prominent fixture in Houston’s skyline and downtown residential scene.

Premier Towers LP purchased the building in 1999 and completed a previous renovation in 2004. The units are notable for their generous sizes—rare in downtown Houston—ranging from about 1,300 square feet to as large as 4,500 square feet. Many units are individually distinctive, and several penthouses were customized to specific tenant needs.

Of the 140 units, Premier Towers LP owns 71, including multiple built-to-suit penthouses; the remaining units are individually owned.

“We’re excited about the changes that will be implemented to support the long-term vitality of the property,” said Nosson Dubin, Vice President of Business Development. “Our goal is to enhance the Commerce Towers experience for our current and future residents.”

Although the company has not yet released a detailed timeline, planned renovations will modernize the building while preserving its historic character. Expected improvements include an updated lobby, upgraded amenity spaces such as the pool deck, fitness center and event rooms, and exterior work designed to maintain the building’s architectural appeal.

The building occupies a full block bounded by Main, Travis, Walker and McKinney streets in Houston’s downtown core.
