HOUSTON – The Houston Association of Realtors (HAR) and its Commercial Gateway division have partnered with Xceligent to launch an online temporary space finder to help businesses displaced by Hurricane Harvey find short-term commercial leases. Available listings are hosted on the Commercial Gateway site at www.CommGate.com.
The initiative aims to identify existing properties where landlords are willing to offer short-term leases to companies in need of immediate workspace. The platform focuses on making it faster and easier for displaced businesses to resume operations while longer-term arrangements are made.
“Houston will not recover from Harvey’s flooding until people are back to work, and relocating displaced businesses into temporary locations is a critical part of restoring our communities,” said HAR Chair Cindy Hamann.
Xceligent researchers and CommGate staff are actively reaching out to property owners and brokers across the region to locate commercial spaces suitable for temporary occupancy. The teams will search available inventory, connect displaced companies with brokers offering short-term leases, and direct inquiries to the CommGate.com portal for further assistance.
“Much of the Gulf Coast’s recovery depends on the commercial real estate industry responding quickly to meet businesses’ short-term needs,” said Mario Arriaga, chairman of the Commercial Gateway Advisory Board. “Beyond displaced businesses, there is also demand for space from insurance adjusters, claims processors, relief agencies, out-of-town contractors, and suppliers of building materials.”
The temporary space finder is intended to streamline the process of matching urgent space needs with available properties, helping businesses resume operations sooner and supporting broader recovery efforts across affected communities.
