Dallas – By Dale King – Just over a year ago, Arch-Con Construction, a design-build general contractor founded in Houston nearly two decades ago, opened a new office in Dallas. Since then, the firm has completed several projects, started many more, quadrupled its staff and promoted internal leaders, said founder and CEO Michael G. Scheurich.
“When we chose a first market for expansion, Dallas was the clear choice,” Scheurich said. “It was where I began my construction career and it has proven to be an excellent fit. We’re enjoying the energy and opportunities in this dynamic market.”
Scheurich established Arch-Con in Houston in 2000 with the goal of expanding beyond its initial scope. “I formed Arch-Con to serve the local commercial market with office and industrial design-build services,” he said. “Over time, we broadened our expertise to include retail, medical, corporate interiors, hospitality and community projects.”
“Arch-Con is more than a typical contractor,” Scheurich added. “Design isn’t merely a step on the way to construction. Our designers and builders collaborate throughout the process. That teamwork keeps big-picture design goals aligned with day-to-day construction decisions, improving quality and efficiency.”
He also highlighted the company’s organizational structure. “Our distinct, independent divisions function as specialized business units focused on their markets, which sets us apart.”
The firm serves real estate developers, building owners, architects, brokers and tenants.
Since establishing its North Texas presence, Arch-Con has completed 624,000 square feet of industrial projects and currently has about 2 million square feet of industrial, retail and hospitality work under construction or soon to begin.
Notable projects include:
- Park 20 Distribution Center – A recently completed 468,000-square-foot tilt-wall, cross-dock distribution facility for Huntington Industrial Partners. The building features a 32-foot clear height on a 36-acre site in Lancaster, Texas. Architect: Meinhardt & Associates Architects, P.L.L.C.
- Prologis Park Trinity Boulevard – A 156,000-square-foot tilt-wall, rear-load industrial warehouse completed for developer Prologis, designed by Meinhardt & Associates.
- I-20 Commerce Center – A speculative tilt-wall storage complex nearing 1 million square feet, designed by Powers Brown Architects and developed by Copeland Commercial. The project was a finalist for “Best New Industrial Project” in D CEO’s Commercial Real Estate Awards 2017.
- Frisco Ranch – A specialty Asian retail center in Frisco’s retail hub, offering more than 88,100 square feet of retail and restaurant space anchored by 99 Ranch Market and Daiso Japan.
- Hines Parkside Las Colinas Self Storage – Under construction, this 95,178-square-foot self storage development includes six buildings and 649 storage units. Five buildings are single-story drive-up units, and one is a 79,678-square-foot climate-controlled facility.
At the leadership level, Arch-Con promoted Senior Vice President Robert Martin from vice president of the Office and Industrial Divisions in Dallas to lead the entire Dallas office. Martin brings more than 20 years of North Texas construction management experience and has delivered over $350 million in projects.
“We’ve spent the past year building a solid foundation,” Martin said. “I’m excited to continue growing our team and our presence in Dallas.”
Scheurich, who grew up in Beaumont, Texas, earned his undergraduate degree in Construction Science from Texas A&M and began his career working on projects in the Dallas–Fort Worth area, including The Ballpark at Arlington and Doctors Hospital Medical Tower. After moving to Houston, he completed an MBA at the University of St. Thomas.
