Construction Begins on X Houston Tower in Museum District

HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – X Company has broken ground on X Houston, a 33-story co-living community offering extensive amenities in the Museum District.

Hoar Construction is serving as general contractor and expects to complete the 750,000-square-foot development in the third quarter of 2024.

Designed for young professionals, the 475-unit X Houston sits just blocks from Hermann Park and emphasizes shared living, convenience and on-site programming.

The building will include elevated amenities such as an outdoor pool with a bar area, a yoga studio and a fully equipped fitness center. Multiple coworking environments will be provided, including breakout rooms, private offices, conference rooms and design studios, plus podcast recording suites. Ground-level retail will activate the street, and many of the amenities will be available to nonresidents through the X Club membership program.

“We are introducing several new state-of-the-art amenities that are unlike any other in the market, differentiating X Houston from other nearby multifamily developments,” said Ryan Hart, project manager at Hoar. “Our team at Hoar is proud to play a role in expanding Houston’s multifamily landscape and delivering a premier mixed-use environment tailored to the young professionals drawn to this neighborhood.”

Located on La Branch Street near the Children’s Museum and Binz Street, the site benefits from cultural and recreational assets within walking distance.

“This is our first project in Houston — and our first in Texas. The supply-demand dynamics of the Houston market are very attractive right now,” said Ben Brichta, partner at Chicago-based X Company. “X Houston will provide much-needed housing in one of the fastest-growing U.S. cities while delivering exceptional value to residents and club members.”

X Company previously completed an 813-bed project near Denver’s Union Station and a 500-bed development in downtown Phoenix. Additional X projects are in progress in Tampa, Oakland and Denver.

For X Houston, the development team comprises The Lamar Johnson Collaborative as architect of record and Workshop/APD as interior designer. Engineering and consulting services are provided by Kimley-Horn, Thornton-Tomasetti and Blum Consulting Engineers.

Co-living and micro-unit concepts have been expanding across Houston’s Inner Loop. Recently, a six-story residential tower featuring micro-units and roommate-oriented apartments began construction in the Montrose district. Civitas Capital Group, through its residential development arm The Shelter Companies, is building a 238-unit, 381-bed project at 701 Richmond Avenue, about three blocks east of Montrose Boulevard.
