Downtown Park Project to Break Ground March 2020 with Major New Amenity

Southern Downtown Park, bounded by Fannin, San Jacinto, Leeland and Bell, will add green space to downtown Houston.

HOUSTON – Plans for a new downtown park are advancing: the Downtown Redevelopment Authority has chosen a restaurant operator and scheduled groundbreaking for March 2020.

The park is planned to open in March 2021 and will occupy three-quarters of a block bounded by Fannin, Leeland, Bell and San Jacinto. The site sits within a block or two of several high-rise residential towers, including Houston House and Skyhouse Houston, placing new green space within easy reach of downtown residents.

The Downtown Redevelopment Authority selected La Vie de St Concepts to operate the park’s restaurant. The outlet, named Tout Suite, will be a fast-casual café offering an all-day menu of simple, high-quality dishes, baked goods and specialty coffee, with menu prices ranging from about $3 to $18.

“After a thorough RFP process, we are delighted to announce Tout Suite as the café operator for the new Southern Downtown Park,” said Bob Eury, president of the DRA. “We wanted a team skilled at creating welcoming spaces that attract a broad audience—students and professionals, locals and visitors alike.”

Southern Downtown Park will include dog runs, quiet seating areas and a flexible event lawn. The park was designed by Lauren Griffith Associates, based on a site programming report from Project for Public Spaces. Gensler is providing architectural services for the café and other park structures.

The café will total approximately 2,400 square feet, with indoor seating for 56 guests and outdoor seating for 40.

Tout Suite’s hours at Southern Downtown Park will be weekdays from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
