HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – The McCord organization is developing a 101,000-square-foot medical office building in Generation Park, located in northeast Houston.
Designed by Kirksey Architecture to serve as the architectural centerpiece of Redemption Square, the five-story building will feature a glass façade and provide scenic views of the adjacent West Lake Park. Overlooking recreational amenities intended to promote healthy lifestyles, the facility will offer a central location where the greater Lake Houston community can access healthcare services that support well-being from the inside out.
“Good design is grounded in the human experience, and our people-centric approach is what continues to bring people and businesses to Generation Park,” said Ryan McCord, owner of Generation Park and president of McCord. “We are making the medical experience as pleasant as possible for both practitioners and patients. A small but important part of creating that experience was ensuring you can see West Lake Park from every floor.”
Generation Park is a 4,000-acre master-planned community near Beltway 8, east of Highway 59, roughly a 10-minute drive from George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH).
$5 Billion at Build-Out
When the development was announced in 2012, the project was projected at build-out to represent approximately $5 billion in industrial, office, retail and medical space, alongside hotel and multifamily development. Over time, Generation Park has positioned itself as a major mixed-use destination in the region.
In 2017, Generation Park was promoted as a potential site for Amazon’s HQ2. Although Houston was not selected among the final 20 cities—an outcome that drew local disappointment—the effort helped spotlight Generation Park as a contender for future corporate campuses and large-scale commercial investment.
The new medical office building is expected to catalyze additional healthcare development within the McCord project. It will be situated in Redemption Square, the denser town center of Generation Park, where mixed-use activity is concentrated.
“Given the critical importance of high-quality medical care and the limited options currently available in the surrounding area, McCord is developing a first-class medical office building for the growing Lake Houston community,” said Shawn Cloonan, former chief operating officer of the Texas Medical Center and now general counsel and director of life sciences for McCord. “The combination of professional healthcare expertise, an emphasis on innovative design, and a naturally attractive setting within Redemption Square creates an optimal environment for patients and providers alike.”
Generation Park is adjacent to two community colleges—San Jacinto College and Lone Star College—which provide a nearby workforce and recruiting pipeline for medical practices, supporting specialties from primary care to neurology, oncology and physical therapy.
A short, covered walkway with generous lighting will connect the medical office building to Redemption Square’s five-story parking garage, ensuring safe, comfortable access for patients, staff and visitors.
