HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – Arch-Con Corporation has begun construction on a 38,400-square-foot expansion of Houston Physicians’ Hospital, located in the Clear Lake/Webster area of southeast Houston.
“Houston Physicians’ Hospital is fortunate to serve a growing population, and this expansion will allow us to better meet the region’s healthcare needs,” said Heather Womack, CEO of Houston Physicians’ Hospital.
The hospital site sits near the Gulf Freeway, NASA Road 1 and NASA’s Johnson Space Center—an area that has regained momentum since the historic return of U.S. human spaceflight launched from American soil aboard a commercially built spacecraft by SpaceX.
“With renewed interest in U.S. human space travel and an encouraging outlook for increased space-related business activity, the NASA-area markets of southeast Harris County have gained significant momentum,” said Dan Seal, Executive Director of Economic Development for the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership. “We anticipate a strong 2021.”
Houston Physicians’ Hospital has been projecting increased patient volume in the coming years and serves communities including Clear Lake, Friendswood, Webster, League City, Galveston and surrounding areas.
To accommodate that growth, hospital leaders planned a three-story addition to the existing 49,000-square-foot facility. The expansion was designed by Heitkamp Swift Architects.
The first floor will add a kitchen and dining facility, a private staff break area, sterile processing space and a staff meeting room. The second floor expands the Surgical Services Department with four new operating rooms. The third floor will focus on post-acute recovery and rehabilitation space.
Architecturally, the exterior will combine a glass curtainwall with lightweight precast concrete panels. The front façade will be clad to complement the existing entry, echoing the appearance of quartz stone. As part of the project, Arch-Con will also upgrade and renovate the hospital’s mechanical, electrical and HVAC systems.
“Throughout bidding and preconstruction, Arch-Con demonstrated strong preparation around infection prevention standards and safety protocols, and they bring extensive experience delivering construction projects with minimal disruption to healthcare operations,” Womack said. “Their collaborative approach with our senior leadership and focus on patients, physicians and staff made them an excellent fit for this project.”
The expansion is expected to create roughly 30 additional full-time and part-time hospital positions. Completion is scheduled for September 2021. Houston Physicians’ Hospital is located at 333 North Texas Avenue in Webster, Texas.
