BOCA RATON, Fla. – The National Association of Real Estate Editors (NAREE) invites journalists to enter NAREE’s 72nd Annual Real Estate Journalism Competition.
Deadline: Submit entries at www.naree.org between Feb 1 and March 1, 2022, by 11:59 p.m. EST. Eligible entries are for work published or broadcast in 2021.
The competition welcomes reporters, columnists, writers, editors and freelancers who cover commercial and residential real estate, mortgage finance, sustainable development, home building, design and related fields.
Categories for single-byline entries include Best Collection of Work – Residential Real Estate, Best Collection of Work – Commercial Real Estate, Best Column, Best Economic Analysis, Best Architecture Story, Best Interior Design Story and the Kenneth R. Harney Award for Best Consumer Education Reporting.
Newspaper writers (daily or weekly) may enter categories such as Best Residential Real Estate Story and Best Commercial Real Estate Story.
Magazine writers with a single byline can enter three categories: Best Residential Magazine Story, Best Mortgage Magazine Story, or Best Financial Real Estate Magazine Story.
Teams and individual journalists may submit entries for Best E-Newsletter, Best Breaking News Story, Best Investigative Report or Series, Best International Real Estate Story and Best Multi-Platform Package or Series. Entries are also accepted for Best Audio Report or Podcast and Best Video Report.
Publications can enter categories including Best Newspaper Real Estate or Home Section, Best Home or Shelter Magazine, Best Website and Best Newsletter.

Monetary awards include the Platinum Award of $1,000 for Best Overall Individual Entry and the Kenneth R. Harney Award for Best Consumer Education Reporting, also $1,000. The Best Freelance Collection winner receives $500. The Ruth Ryon Best Young Journalist award (age 30 or under) and Gold winners in 29 categories receive $250 each.
Winners will be announced at NAREE’s fall conference in Atlanta.
Entries will be judged by faculty from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University on clarity of writing, objectivity, originality, depth of reporting and, where applicable, graphic design and production.
All professional journalists working for bona fide independent news outlets—NAREE members and non-members—are eligible to enter.
