HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – Four finalist teams have been chosen in the international design competition to produce a new headquarters for the Houston Endowment, the city’s philanthropic foundation.
Funding and the site for the roughly 40,000-square-foot project have been secured. The parcel sits just west of downtown Houston near Buffalo Bayou, close to Memorial Drive, Spotts Park and Waugh Drive.
Organizers expect to announce the winning design team in November 2019. Construction is scheduled so the building may open in May 2022.
The four finalists are (listed alphabetically by lead firm):
• Deborah Berke Partners — with DAVID RUBIN Land Collective and Atelier Ten
• Kevin Daly Architects — with TLS Landscape Architecture, Productora and Transsolar
• Olson Kundig — with Surfacedesign, Inc.
• Schaum/Shieh Architects — in collaboration with HKS and Andrea Cochran Landscape Architecture
The competition’s first phase, launched in June 2019, drew 121 team entries representing 354 firms. Malcolm Reading Consultants is coordinating the competition.
